Frequently Asked Questions

Why chose Obagi?

Obagi Medical Products have over 30 years of clinically proven results. They are medical grade skincare products which work by changing the way the skin functions at a cellular level, delivering unparalleled results. The Obagi Systems are comprised of a range of topical treatments developed to address a variety of skin concerns.

What’s the difference between Obagi products and drug store products?

Obagi products are medical grade skin care products and are classed as cosmeceuticals and most drug store products are classes as cosmetics.

Cosmetic products enhance the appearance of the skin without therapeutic benefits, whereas cosmeceuticals are a hybrid between pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products that are intended to enhance both the health and beauty of the skin by following a particular mechanism of action.

Cosmetic products cannot pass between the epidermis and dermis whereas cosmeceuticals are able to pass through the epidermis and act deep within the dermis.

Will Obagi products work on all skin tones?

Obagi products are designed to work on all Fitzpatrick skin types.

The most suitable products for your skin tone will be recommended during your free consultation.

Can I buy Obagi products online?

A lot of the Obagi products are prescription only therefore clients will need a thorough consultation with a clinician to assess their skin beforehand. Some of the products are also not suitable if you have certain allergies which is why it is very important to get

your Obagi products from a certified provider.

What are the side effects of Obagi products?

Depending on which products are recommended to you; some of the main side effects include dryness, flaking and some redness.

These usually subside after a couple of weeks and can be minimised by using an effective moisturiser.

Is it safe during pregnancy and breast feeding?

There are some systems and products including the chemical peels which are not suitable for women who are pregnant and breast feeding. Alternatives will be offered during your consultation in line with your skin care concerns.

Does the chemical peel hurt? Can I still carry out my normal activities?

During the chemical peel you may experience a slight tingling sensation but otherwise it should be comfortable.

You will be able to go about your normal activities straight away which makes it the perfect lunchtime treatment!

Is there a timeline or outline of what I can expect to happen to my skin whilst using Obagi Skincare?

There are Five Phases of Transformation:

Phase 1:  Remove (Weeks 1-6) Products begin working to help promote skin cell turnover.  The top layer of the skin is exfoliated, removing dull, old skin cells to help promote new skin cells.  You may experience mild to moderate itching, dryness, and redness.

You may begin to notice a more even-toned appearance on your skin.

Phase 2:  Restart (Weeks 7-12)  New skin cells are produced and pigment cells are distributing melanin more evenly.

You may notice smoother, softer skin and skin is becoming more even-toned.

Phase 3:  Refresh (Weeks 13-18) Skin cells are turning over.

Your skin is becoming clearer, firmer-looking, naturally hydrated and more evenly toned.

Phase 4:  Restore (Continued Results with proper maintenance) Healthy-looking skin is maintained.

Your skin looks restored, more even-toned, resilient-looking, and radiant.

Phase 5:  Retain (Proper Skin Maintenance) Continued maintenance of healthy-looking skin.

Do anti-wrinkle treatments hurt?

Prior to all treatments a very effective topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to the area.

This is usually left on for 15-20 minutes and will numb the area that is due to be treated making it more comfortable.

How quickly can I see the results of my anti-wrinkle treatments?

Result times vary depending on which treatment you have had done.

In some areas it can be immediate and other areas may take up to 2 weeks to fully integrate and settle into your skin.

After 2 weeks you will be called in for a review appointment to assess whether any adjustments are required.

How long do anti-wrinkle treatment lasts?

The results will usually wear off evenly and gradually and will often go unnoticed. Depending on where you have had the treatment you can expect the results to last between 3-5 months. Anti-wrinkle treatments have no permanent effects.

Will I be able to tell I’ve had treatments done?

This is entirely up to you. Here at Dr Kalair Facial Aesthetics we believe in enhancing your natural beauty with light and subtle treatments so even close friends and family may not be able to tell you have had any treatment carried out.

They may say you look fresher but may not be able to quite work out exactly why!

After having lip treatments done the area can be a little swollen for a few days so we would advise to not make any plans if you do not want anyone to know.

What will happen if I stop having anti-wrinkle treatments done?

If you decide to stop having anti-wrinkle treatments done then the results will wear off gradually and your normal appearance will return without any lasting effects. There is no harm in having treatments done as a one off for a special occasion to give yourself a fresh glow however to achieve optimum results we would recommend regular repeated treatments.
